Mission

The mission of Northwoods Medical is to prepare the American Citizenry to “Die Less”. While painfully simple at face value, we do this through the concepts of educate, train and assess.

By utilizing this approach, we aim to better prepare students to medically care for themselves, their families and their communities when help is more than just a phone call away.

Our mission is painfully simple and yet incredibly complex at the same time. The “what” is easy. The “how” is the challenge.

Our Approach

Educate: Educating our students by breaking down barriers and gatekeeping between the American healthcare profession and the American Citizenry. We introduce students to proven, evidence-based medicine such as Tactical Combat Casualty Care, with lessons learned from a myriad of experiences in both military medicine and “civilian” medicine. This allows the students to get a synthesis of both worlds and see how it applies to them in their daily life.

Train: By working side by side with our students, we help to train them to a high level of competency. Through collaboration and open dialogue between students and cadre, our students learn the skills required to medically provide the highest level of care for themselves, their families and their communities.

Assess: The concept of “practice makes perfect” is asinine. Practicing something incorrectly only creates training scars. Perfect practice is what makes perfect. Without a metric to measure failure and success, progress cannot be tracked and improved upon. Assessment for us is done through the utilization of group After Action Review’s (AAR’s) upon completion of each scenario and an open dialogue approach between students and the cadre throughout our courses. Everybody can learn from anybody’s mistakes to better themselves.
